Our Mission Statement...
The Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii will ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences; and will prevent, control and cure epilepsy through services, education, advocacy and research

The Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii is NOT associated with the "Epileptic Foundation of Maui"

On July 1, 2008 the Maui News printed an article stating Glenn Mabson, the Executive Director of the Epileptic Foundation of Hawaii, had been convicted of welfare fraud and theft.

We would like to make it clear that the Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii and our parent organization the Epilepsy Foundation of America is in no way affiliated with the Epileptic Foundation of Maui.  For many years we have asked Mr. Mabson to change the name of his organization because it is too easily confused with the trademarked name "Epilepsy Foundation" which is reserved for affiliates of the Epilepsy Foundation of America.  The Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii is the ONLY official affiliate of the Epilepsy Foundation of America in the State of Hawaii.

For more details on the article go to ...Nonprofit executive director is guilty of welfare fraud, theft.  Please note that the article incorrectly calls his organization the "Epilepsy Foundation of Maui" several times in the article.

We are at a financial crossroads and need YOUR help!

We know that times are tight these days for all non-profit institutions like the Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii but I would like to ask your help in what is truly a period of crisis.  We are the smallest national affiliate of the EFA (Epilepsy Foundation of America),  Although we have been helping the people of Hawaii since 1971 we are likely to lose our ability to remain affiliated with the EFA and lose the ability to provide valuable services to our Kama’aina.

Throughout the past 37 years we have been able to weather financial downturns by simply pulling back, providing core services, and hanging tough.  At this time, however, our parent organization, the EFA, has told us that unless we have a full time employed executive director we will lose full affiliate status with this great national organization.  Unfortunately, at this time we do not have the money to pay for a full time executive director as that would result in our bankruptcy within 6 months.  That is, unless we can raise approximately $50,000 which would give us a 12-18 month buffer while we develop other fundraising sources.

For the past 37 years we have been the sole source of reliable and responsible information for the people of Hawaii who are touched by epilepsy and seizure disorders.  Our ability to give presentations to schools and teachers, nurses, and emergency medical personnel are at risk.  Our ability to provide referral services for legal issues, employment discrimination, and housing issues for people with epilepsy is at risk.  Our sponsorship of support groups for adults and children with epilepsy is at risk.  Our ability to help secure funding for patients who must travel far distances for adequate medical care is at risk.  Our plans to provide a day camp for kids with epilepsy has been long postponed due to inadequate funding and that dream is at risk of never being realized.  All this is at risk but you can help!

Please consider a tax deductible contribution to the Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii in order to allow us to continue to provide the full arsenal of services that are needed here in Hawaii.  We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization licensed in the State of Hawaii and your help can make all the difference in the world!

The Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii (EFH) provides direct services to individuals with seizure disorders.  It is estimated that over 18,000 Hawaii residents suffer from epilepsy and over 75,000 people are touched by it.  For over 20 years the EFH has provided information and educational services to individuals and groups with questions pertaining to epilepsy.

The EFH is a private, nonprofit agency, whose mission is to increase public awareness of epilepsy and to build a sense of community, enabling persons with epilepsy to participate fully in the community at large.
